“The right to property is important not necessarily because it is constitutive of some version of natural rights, but because it provides an incentive for those who value a resource the most to figure out how to make the most efficient use of the resource.”

According to foremost economist Dr. Ludwig von Mises in his book Socialism published in 1922: “If history could prove and teach us anything, it would be the private ownership of the means of production is a necessary requisite of civilization and material well-being. All civilizations have up to now been based on private property. Only nations committed to the principle of private property have risen above penury and produced science, art, and literature.”

“Worker co-ops, which “democratize” decision-making, may arrive at different decisions about how profit gets used, allocated, and distributed, but this does not mean co-ops do not depend on incentives associated with profit and private property.”

S and C type corporations strive to maximize profits for their shareholders. I am an advocate of worker co-ops, employee owned businesses, benefit corporations and non-profit corporations that prioritize employee benefits. I oppose the federal government redistributing wealth but it is constitutional since ratification of the 16th Amendment. Therefore I support lower federal tax rates for businesses that prioritize employee benefits.

“I am more concerned about what works in terms of creating value given the constraints at hand. The economic approach to human behavior is a far more useful way to address this problem than worrying about whether capitalism or socialism is compatible with human nature.”

Well said!
