Adult illegal immigrants are using children as pawns to stay in the U.S. This practice which plays on the parental instincts of U.S. citizens is very effective. Children should not be separated from their parents unless they are being abused by them or the parents have committed and found guilty of a significant crime against society. It is my opinion that an infant born in the U.S. should not automatically be classified as a U.S. citizen. The citizenship of an infant’s parents should determine the citizenship of the infant. Congress should pass a law accordingly and direct that the Supreme Court shall not have appellate jurisdiction for same (U.S. Constitution Article III, Section 2). This would eliminate “anchor babies” and one of the incentives to immigrate into the U.S. When a declared family enters the U.S. all members should be DNA tested for corroboration. If DNA test results indicate the members are not all directly related and there is no documentation for legal family status they should be refused continued presence (deported) due to fraudulent actions and therefore ineligible for asylum or refugee status.
The U.S. immigration laws do not set a limit on the number of people who can be awarded asylum in the United States each year. Asylees are people from other countries who are unable or unwilling to return to those countries because they have either been persecuted in the past or have a “well-founded” fear of future persecution. Refugees are people seeking protection based on past or future persecution. The POTUS sets the annual limit which Mr. Trump set to 30,000 for 2019. People escaping low economic opportunity, poverty or even starvation do not qualify as refugees or asylees.
Churches and other benevolent (charitable) organizations that want to assist the poor and hungry should establish relief stations in their country or Mexico instead of assisting people to violate our immigration laws. Charitable individuals should donate to churches and other benevolent organizations instead of expecting taxpayers to fund charitable activities.
