After reviewing your profile Mrs. Stewart I learned that you are a fairly prolific writer who is followed by many but this is one of a very few pro-conservative articles. Is that because you were concerned about being lambasted by liberals?
“I voted for President Trump and I will again. Do I like all that he has said and done? Absolutely not.”
I did not vote for Mr. Trump or Mrs. Clinton in 2016 and I won’t vote for Mr. Trump or the Democratic Party nominee in 2020. In my opinion Mr. Trump is lacking in principles and knowledge of the Constitution. Since I reside in a “solid red” state I feel comfortable voting my conscience for a third party or independent POTUS candidate without contributing to the election of the greater of two evils. I am willing to make two complimentary statements about Mr. Trump: He has attempted to fulfill most of his campaign promises; He seems to place importance on advice from the Heritage Foundation.
“I know there are conservatives who speak out, but we don’t often hear those voices.”
I am an originalist constitutionalist and have been fairly active on social media for the past four years. I have observed how a Facebook academic discussion can quickly degenerate into a personal degrading attack. For that reason I have chosen to remain anonymous on Medium. I have also learned that if I challenge a person’s selected political party I have little chance that they will even listen to my persuasive argument let alone consider abandoning their party loyalty. However, if I debate a principle without mention of political party most individuals will at least listen and consider my opinion.
“We can start by being outspoken among our circle of influence. Not in an angry, hurtful way, but as people who want to educate others about conservative thoughts and actions.”
I agree. When I write my comments I try to imagine myself having a private conversation with the individual I’m addressing. I encourage you to continue to express your conservative political ideas.
