Almost 5 decades ago my wife and I honeymooned in Acapulco, Mexico. When sightseeing away from the downtown we encountered luxurious gated villas protected with high walls. There was broken glass protruding from the top of the walls to deter intruders. The vast difference in living conditions between the wealthy and the poor was sobering.
The average monthly wage of a factory worker in the U.S. is $3,200 compared to $400 in Mexico. The U.S. has a reputation for being one of the wealthiest countries in the world and has the greatest GDP per capita for North, Central and South America. It should be no surprise that foreigners are clamoring to share some of our wealth.
Consider that you as a generous and caring person for the poor advertised that at your home free food would be provided to the hungry. Even in this country the response would be overwhelming and when your supply was depleted you might be subject to verbal abuse or even physical harm. You would soon abandon your generous practice because it threatened your well being and that of your family. Most people help the poor and hungry thru agencies such as their church or other non-profits. This prevents the individual from being identified as the source of generosity and the associated expectation of continuation.
You may not be aware that there are about 500,000 homeless people in our country. Some may be homeless by choice but most are not. You may also not realize that more than 30 million children receive free lunch at their schools every day because of poverty. Most people provide for family members first and then donate their surplus to others. We have plenty of needy residents in the U.S. Our resources to help others are limited. That’s why there are immigration quotas.
“In the face of these raid threats, parents are having to drill their American-born children on what to do if mommy and daddy get taken away.”
If the parents were not here illegally there wouldn’t be a problem. If a citizen parent committed a crime and was sentenced to prison his/her children would be placed in a responsible home environment for care. Why shouldn’t adult illegal immigrants suffer the same consequences?
