As you mentioned we live in an age of instant gratification that is promoted by mass advertising, peer pressure and readily available credit. When my parents married immediately after the end of World War II they rented homes and saved money for the first ten years. Then they were able to purchase a lot and my father built a home himself. Many years ago our daughter came home from elementary school one day and informed me that we were the only family in the state that still had a black and white TV. When our daughter got married eighteen years ago her husband already owned a home for them to live in. In current times many college graduates are burdened with massive debt and living with their parents while working and paying off their student loans.

For the past three generations the federal government has followed a similar trend from little or no annual deficits to massive deficits. The Republicans are just as guilty as the Democrats. Many city and county governments are following suit with debt funded building projects and unfunded future employee retirement benefits. If federal deficit spending is not curtailed, at some point we will lose our credit and be unable to pay the interest on our national debt like Puerto Rico. Who will save us from the resulting chaos?
