I am a retiree living comfortably on Social Security and two pensions. My two biggest security concerns are long term health care for my wife or myself and inflation. About thirty years ago I considered purchasing long term health care insurance. I learned that the annual premiums were increasing so rapidly that many who had purchased care could no longer afford the premiums after ten years. Social Security has a cost-of-living adjustment based on the Consumer Price Index. However, medical care commodities and medical care services only represent 8.68% of the Consumer Price Index. This is not reflective of the costs incurred by seniors. Social Security should utilize a cost-of-living adjustment appropriate for only those eligible to receive benefits.
