Most states prohibit hospitals from refusing services to emergency patients. Such hospitals routinely “write off” the debts of patients who would experience extreme hardship to pay their bills. Even so, they still operate with a profit. A religious affiliated non-profit hospital should take pity on the poor.

Unfortunately, here’s an easy but unethical way to become wealthy. Pick the most charitable act you can think of and form a non-profit corporation to accomplish it. Then pay yourself an exorbitant salary to head the corporation. After several years when the IRS gets around to asking you to justify your salary, reduce your salary and form a fund raising organization with you as head and your non-profit corporation as a client.
