"Refusing to cast a vote in Australia will cost you $20 in fines, assuming you don’t have an acceptable reason, which might be illness, performing life-saving duties, or a natural disaster."

As I recall attending a voting location is compulsory but actually marking the ballot for a candidate is not. I encourage all that are eligible to cast an informed vote.

"If one hasn’t earned the vote, then vote against the one you most oppose. Vote for the lesser of two (or three evils)."

Australia has implemented ranked choice voting for at least the past 100 years. They vote for their preferences instead of the least undesirable.

I oppose mandatory voting and declaring election day a holiday. Instead, parents and schools should explain the importance of voting and elected candidates should make a difference in governing. No-excuse absentee voting should be available in all states.
