“Solar power is slightly different, though. It is unreliable in the sense only that its output can fluctuate. However, it has such an immense output in most places that this is almost irrelevant, and it is likely that the future energy mix will be dominated by solar power due to its ever-increasing power.”

Solar power can’t satisfy the goals of renewable energy enthusiasts until energy storage technology is significantly improved or there is available a rapidly responding alternative energy source that is classified as renewable. Duke Energy has heavily invested in solar power in North Carolina but found it to be more polluting than natural gas due to fluctuating loads and fluctuating supply.

“Ultimately, nuclear energy will only shift our problems down the line for future generations.”

Until the U.S. has implemented the process of safely packaging, transporting and disposing of existing nuclear power plant waste we should not build any more plants. However, there is a possibility that the first nuclear fusion plant could be operational by 2040. Nuclear fusion has the potential to be an unlimited clean, safe and carbon-free energy source.
