Thank you for expressing your opinion of traditional socialism vs American welfare programs erroneously identified as socialist.

“in the United States, Welfare evolved from one of the worst failures or epic disasters of Capitalism, the complete collapse of the American Economy during the Great Depression of the 1930s.”

Prior to 1935 state and local governments together with private charities provided for the elderly, disabled, and single mothers with children. I deem President Franklin Roosevelt responsible for establishing a federal welfare system by signing the Social Security Act that included employer-paid unemployment insurance, welfare aid to destitute old people, the needy blind, crippled children, and one-third of the total amount spent by states for assistance to needy and dependent children under age 16.

“Progressive Income Taxes are probably one of the only factors playing a positive role in the losing battle to reducing income inequality.”

In general I agree. However, the goal should not be to achieve income equality. The goal should be for everyone working to achieve an adequate income and those incapable of working to obtain adequate sustenance.

“They are not proposing that the government buy and own all the hospitals and schools, and pharmacies, and the entirety of the private Medical and Education sectors, and employ all the doctors and teachers- and use those industries’ profits in order to fund government”

This is exactly what some Democrat presidential candidates are proposing. They plan to eliminate the private insurance option and envision a Medicare-for-All comparable to the Veterans Administration healthcare system.

“But the reality is that Capitalism is not perfect, and as has proved true in the past, it runs into some serious problems every once in a while”

One problem is that in America most businesses and corporations are max-profit motivated. I would like to see a shift to employee owned businesses and benefit or nonprofit corporations that are humanitarian motivated. They could be categorized as general welfare private organizations.

“we can confidently say with absolute certainty, that the inference that the Welfare State and Progressive Tax are Socialist ideologies is just dead wrong.”

Its too bad that welfarism is already defined as a form of consequentialism. Perhaps benefitism would be suitable.
