The 1992 presidential election is an excellent example of why it is difficult to elect by a majority with a single choice winner-take-all election system. Eliminating or modifying the Electoral College to use the national popular vote would not provide a majority vote winner unless ranked choice voting was utilized to reallocate Perot's votes to the other top-two candidates.
