“Food companies with a commitment to public health, not just shareholder profits, would have made healthy foods people enjoyed eating.”
Whole Foods Markets sells products free from hydrogenated fats and artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives. It was fairly successful prior to being purchased by Amazon in 2017 and continues to increase the number of stores in operation. Even regular grocery stores now carry a limited selection of organic products. If people would realize they are what they eat and learn what is harmful there would be more demand for healthy foods even though they may cost more in the short term.
I advocate for an increase in employee owned businesses, worker cooperatives, benefit and nonprofit corporations in lieu of max-profit corporations. Establishing any of the previous humanity oriented alternative businesses is an excellent opportunity for philanthropy. Workers need to have some expectation of economic upward mobility to avoid frustration which could escalate to civil unrest.
